WHO WE ARE
Mindfulness for the People is a Black-owned social change agency dedicated to disrupting systemic whiteness in the mindfulness movement.
WHAT WE DO
First, we center the wisdom and insight of People of Color in mindfulness research, teaching, practice, and tech. Then, we facilitate racial awareness processes among white mindfulness researchers, teachers, practitioners, and tech developers. Last, we bring our signature compassionate mind-body wisdom methods to the field of racial justice on university campuses and among social good organizations.
HOW WE DO IT
Drawing on skills of mindfulness, compassion, and self-compassion, our culturally responsive and oppression aware services engage Racial Battle Fatigue among People of Color and White Fragility among White people. Through making the covert overt in mindfulness research, teaching, practice, and tech, we radically re-imagine a mindfulness movement that meets the needs of our racialized world.
ABOUT OUR FOUNDER
Dr. Angela Rose Black is a Thought Leader in mindfulness research, teaching, and practice. Named by Mindful magazine as one of the “10 Powerful Women of the Mindfulness Movement” and TIME magazine as “The New Mindfulness,” Dr. Black brings racial justice to mindfulness initiatives, and mindfulness to racial justice initiatives. Learn more about Dr. Black here.
ABOUT OUR ACADEMY
In Fall 2018, we established Academy for the People, a nonprofit research and education arm of Mindfulness for the People. The vision of the Academy is to become the next generation of mindfulness researchers, teachers, and practitioners that center racial justice in mindfulness and mindfulness in racial justice.
